Christmas - hohoho

Never a better time to try and enjoy wine than at Christmas. Christmas is about food, family and fun - throw in some wine too - and make it a good wine.

Good wine doesn't have to cost the earth and the misconception that wine is all about snobbery and pretentiousness - so far from the truth.

Wine is a drink and one that compliments the foods we eat - so why not get the right one for the right purpose?

Summer days and we reach for something to quench the thirst. 6 nations in the rugby club - we reach for beer. In gyms after a workout - we reach for the recovery drinks and more often just plain water - the drink suits the circumstance.

This is where wine becomes fun - having the right bottle, grape and colour for the right food.

I've tried to pair our own house wines with the foods we have at home - and I pretty much succeed.

I've have some shockers too! I paired a pinot noire with a hot and spicy Indian - now some have said this does work and some have argued it doesn't. It didn't for me in anyway and I ticked the box that deeper and richer reds (cab sav, malbecs etc) do.

Christmas Day will start with mulled wine boiling on the stove and filling the house with smell and spice.

Dinner will have sparkling (Prosecco or a fizzy cremante) followed by a sparkling Moldovan red shiraz - and then top off with some port with the cheese board.

Ive had a few comments about the sparkling reds - but arguably my favoured wine at the moment and i'm drinking Dor on Christmas Day with my dinner and it fits like a glove.

Wine is subjective - but don't forget its also just a drink.

Not losing anything other than its fun, complex, easy and all about you - the drinker.

hic hic hic 🍷🍷🍷
