Just reading an article in the newspaper about 'wine o'clock'!

Never figured out why its now taboo and been labelled for married mothers who are middle aged and want to get the kids away to bed - or just out of the way?!

The way we approach alcohol (and this bit I agree with the reference to Veronica Valli) in this country is completely opposite to the way other countries see it.

I see grog (a name amongst a thousand others) as a hobby to study (wine and beer) and to have fun with.

I regularly share bottle recommendations on this blog and also via Instagram - why not!!!

If I get a cracker ill say - luckily I haven't been subjected to too many shockers over the past few years!

Ive also studied and completed qualifications to standards acceptable to the wine world - not that I care what I know, or don't know, is to a standard - my taste and my bottle!

Then the articles come out in the papers saying that it's antiquated, pretentious, medically wrong, medically right - bloody hell! - what next?!

Ban booze! - another name synonymous to a poor branded opportunity to relax and chill.

Placebo based at times as I find a glass and a quick slurp equally as appealing as a bottle and maybe opening another - not pissed yet (great word that - pissed, sizzled, steaming, tipsy etc!) just happy and chilled!

Pub based acceptability would be the 10th pint and add a few small ones to the end of the job and a bag of chips at the walk home!

My wine consumption is quite personal and, yes maybe deemed as snobby - do I care?!- nope.

I like the thrill of the pairing with food - I also like the savouring and affect of knowing that the wine has been purchased with a purpose - for me and to compliment the food I eat.

Up until a few years ago wine was served to kids in school (in France!!!) and paired with their foods.

I doubt anything was making them drink it other than a cool culture that looks at alcohol as an option that we make excessive down to mindset!

I for one will be breaking a habit tonight and cracking open a simple slurp from France and is available via The Times Wine Club or Laithwaites (same mother - different father!!!).

It will be consumed with a jacket spud and cheddar cheese - and its a fantastic pairing - i've done it lots of times.

Will I feel guilty about the Wednesday bottle?

Will I think it's wine time?

Nope - I will maybe think i'm going to be gutted as i've only 1 bottle in my rack!!!
