Has this north Macedonian red over the weekend.
A gift from Er Indoors (aka Jane / Wife) and mega!!! Absolutely mega to say the least.
Or all came about from friends who recently procured a drop from Albania and I thought - I’ve never had one of those!!!
Then I pondered over the old old world wines that come from that region. Historians have stated that Georgia, Albania, Macedonia and co are the oldest producers of wines in the world!
So we explore the old and new wines frequently - but the old old world wines?!
Im sold!!!
This was a blended red with some local and more commonly used - the kratoshija and the vranec grape.
Never had either of those before - knowingly and combined!!!!! off the chart!
High tannins - but what a perfectly balanced drop!
This is in my top bottles for 2021 and currently, as we approach July, I’ve 7 bottles in there! - tough competition!!!
Just ordering my next bottle and will be a high end of research and get one that’s as unique as possible!
I really with that the food stores would bring in some of these more elegant and unusual wines and steer away from mass produced for every corner of their shelves!
This one was from Slurp wines and also available from Novel Wines!
So worth the smidge above £20👌👌👌👌
